Growing up in Mississippi, my fondest memories were when my father would take our family camping, most often to Buccaneer State Park in Waveland. We loved running wild on the nature trails, going to the beach and crabbing/fishing off the seawall. When I became a parent, it was important to me that my kids have the same experience, so I would always take them camping, also to Buccaneer. It must have planted a seed because five years ago my daughter was going to college in Iowa, she asked that we go camping when she came home for a visit. I had just sold my camper so we started looking for one to rent. We couldn’t find a rental, so we bought a used one for her visit. While we were on that trip, I decided that I would start renting our camper to cover the payments. When we got home, I created a Facebook page and started renting it out by word of mouth and a bit of social media. Before long, the one camper stayed booked and I was turning people away. We bought another camper, then two more, and here we are. Now I take the grandkids and force them to breathe fresh air, turn off the TV, and cell phones only come out for pictures. Buccaneer still has the pool I swam in as a kid and now I swim with my grandkids, crab/fish off that seawall and walk the nature trails with them. Gulf Coast Camper Rentals started because I want to help make camping accessible to everyone so they can create some of those same memories with their families. - Kristine Lyons
