San Antonio is a one-stop shop of culture and festivities. From their well-celebrated Oktoberfest to El Día De Los Muertos, the city is well-known for its multi-cultural celebrations. My San Antonio’s website lists a large selection of excellent events, and we’re going to highlight some of our favorites.

Coffins on Parade

You read that right. Picture a large parade float, but instead of busily crowded streets, the Paseo del Rio Association takes up the River Walk with barges decorated in the Halloween spirit. Ghosts, ghouls and goblins float down the waterfront, performing a few laps around the area, all while tens of thousands of visitors watch and celebrate. Local bands perform, and there is much food and drink to be had.

Remember the Alamo Weekend

The Alamo hosts a Battle of the Alamo Commemoration event. Lasting 13 days, this event hosts dozens of programs and daily activities, as well as interactive gatherings. Thousands come out, including school field trips, just to have a truly unique visit of the Alamo historic site. This Commemoration also coincides with Texas Independence Day, where the event will host many celebrations in honor of the joyous time.

Chili Queens Chili Cook-Off

Celebrating the women who sold chili at Military Plaza in the early 1900s, Chili Queens Chili Cook-Off is a free admission event usually held the last weekend of May. Competitors from all over put their chili recipes to the test, but chili is only part of the judging. Alongside recipes, each chili must be represented by a “queen” in their tackiest garb. Those who compete strive to earn the Whoochie award, and take home the prize of best chili.
