VDUB FACTOID: Rell Sunn, aka Queen of Makaha, was both a pioneer in the world of womans surfing and a world surfing champion. Rell helped to establish the Womens Professional Surfing Association and the Womens Pro Surf Tour. Before dying of cancer at the young age of 47, Rell also helped to pilot an awareness program that involved educating local islander women about breast cancer. Despite the pain caused by her cancer, she continued to surf everyday. She is remembered for the enthusiasm she devoted to every aspect of her life. The Aloha spirit is simple.
